Jessica will be presenting her work on characterizing type of eating disordered content across various social media platforms at this year's Association of Eating Disorders's International Conference on Eating Disorders (ICED) in Chicago on Friday, April 20th. The ICED conference is a scientific conference that spans research and education from basic science to the treating clinician; ICED is attended by leading international researchers and includes presentations and discussions on the cutting edge of research in the field. Next week Beth and Jessica (and several ECL Alumni) will be attending the CCC workshop Sociotechnical Interventions for Health Disparity Reduction. This workshop will bring together leading researchers in computing, health informatics, and behavioral medicine to develop an integrative research agenda regarding sociotechnical interventions to reduce health disparities and improve the health of socio-economically disadvantaged populations. Both Beth and Jessica are looking forward to engaging a workshop in New Orleans!

Beth will give the University of Utah's College of Computing Goldman Sachs Distinguished Lecture on 3/1. The talk Rethinking Ubiquitous Computing to Transform Healthcare, will focus on the unique capabilities of pervasive comp.uting technologies and their potential to transform healthcare by shifting care from institutional to home settings by helping individuals engage in their own care, by facilitating problem solving and decision making, and by creating a network of communication and collaboration channels that extends healthcare delivery to everyday settings. Lena Mamykina (Class of '09) returns this week for a whirlwind of research activities! Wednesday (3/7) she will give a lecture, From persona informatics to personal analytics: Using personal data to facilitate self-management of diabetes at The Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Later that day she is a special guest in the Issues in Human Centered Computing Seminar where she will discuss her seminal paper MAHI: Investigation of Social Scaffolding for Reflective Thinking in Diabetes Management. On Thursday (3/8), she is an invited discussant for the IPaT Thursday Think Tank focused on Approaches in Health IT to Address Health Disparities. To learn more about this event, click here.
